Serbia will soon has its first wind farm, thanks to unexpected financing.
The Green for Growth Fund (GGF),a specialized fund to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in East and South Europe, will provide € 32 million to finance wind energy in Serbia. The first Serbian wind farm will be built 50 kilometers northeast of Belgrade. There will be 57 turbines in operation that will be able to provide 113,000 families. Until today, Serbia’s energy capacity is 70% supplied from coal and the rest from hydro power. But the goal is to get 27% of its energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020.
